Contra Costa Ballet’s “Open Studio”

Saturday, September 16th, 2:30 – 5:00pm

Join us for an afternoon of dance! Contra Costa Ballet invites your family into the studio for a glimpse into the world of classical ballet. Complimentary dance workshops, activities and a performance by the Contra Costa Ballet Company are some of the highlights of this Open Studio event!



2:30 & 3:15 Check–in for dance workshops (15 minutes prior to each workshop)

Door prizes include two pairs of tickets to Contra Costa Ballet’s The Nutcracker on Friday, November 24th at 7:30pm! Must be present when prizes are announced prior to the 4:30pm performance.


Experience the joy of dance through our introductory workshops! Children will explore the fundamentals of ballet and learn a variation from The Nutcracker. No dance experience needed. Dance attire optional (soft-soled shoes, please). Pre-registration for dance workshops is recommended, as space is limited!

Enjoy an inspiring demonstration of Swan Lake performed by the Contra Costa Ballet Company. Company dancers have achieved the Centre’s highest level of training and perform professional productions twice annually: The Nutcracker and Spring Rep’.

4:30 – Presentation of Contra Costa Ballet’s Company dancers followed by a brief performance from Swan Lake


Participate in engaging, family activities, including interactive exhibits and ballet-themed crafts.

2:30 – 4:30 Backstage at the Ballet: The Nutcracker
Take a peek at props used in Contra Costa Ballet’s The Nutcracker. Try on the King Mouse’s headpiece, and brandish his sword! Flick open a Spanish fan, and meet the Company dancers!
2:30 – 4:30 Crafts and coloring activities

Door prize winners for The Nutcracker tickets will be announced prior to the 4:30pm performance. Contra Costa Ballet “spiritwear” will be available for purchase at Open Studio (all proceeds benefit the Contra Costa Ballet Foundation). Light refreshments will be served.


For over 50 years, the Contra Costa Ballet Centre has been raising the barre in ballet instruction, and the Contra Costa Ballet Foundation has been sponsoring quality ballet productions such as The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and Alice in Wonderland in the East Bay.
